Plot the Process of Component Strip Off from Flowing Water
Question
Component A in a water stream is to be stripped out using an air stream in a countercurrent staged stripper. Inlet air is pure, and the flow rate is G = 500 mol/hr. The inlet liquid stream has a mole ratio of X = 0.10 and a flow rate of pure water of 500 mol/hr. The desired outlet mole ratio is X = 0.005. Assume that water is nonvolatile and air is insoluble. Equilibrium data can be represented by Y = 1.5X.
a). Draw a diagram of the process and label the streams in and out.
b). Show the ‘complete’ operating equation of the process.
c). Using the attached X-Y diagram, find the number of equilibrium stages and the outlet gas mole ratio. Be certain to label the diagram.
d). Also provide the (L/G)max.
