Remedies for Breach of Contract

Rigoletto, an opera singer of great renown, was engaged to give a concert in Halifax. A hall was rented, a stage crew hired, and much advertising undertaken. The day before he was to perform, Rigoletto sent word to Halifax that he intended to send his understudy, Tremolo, to sing in his place. The reason given for the change was that one of Rigoletto's friends was leaving on an extended trip and Rigoletto wished to attend a farewell party in her honour. Tremolo was not, of course, nearly as well known as Rigoletto, but a noted music critic had recently observed that he was quite as good. Can Rigoletto's sponsors in Halifax successfully sue him for breach of contract? Give reasons.
