The equilibrium concentration of component A of in the vapour phase yA, with concentration of component A in liquid phase, XA, can be given by:
yA = xAPAo/P
and
xA = (P - PBo)/ (PAo – PBo)
where P = system pressure
PA°, P B° = saturated pressure of component (A) and (B) respectively.
(a) Briefly indicate the laws used to obtain these relationships.
(b) Plot the Vapour Liquid Equilibrium (VLE) curve (xA, yA) using the data given in Table Q5 and assuming that the benzene - toluene system will be maintained under an absolute pressure of 760 mmHg.
