Effectiveness of Communication Channels of an Organization

1. Identify an organization where you can examine their current communication channels. You must obtain permission to conduct the research.
2. Design a primary research instrument (survey or interview protocol) with which to gather data on the channels and their effectiveness. A survey is suitable for gathering data from a group of people. An interview is suitable for gathering data from just 1-4. For instance, if you want to ask an entire department or branch office about their communication behavior and their satisfaction with the various channels (meetings, newsletter, email, etc.), then you’d do a survey. If, instead, you think that one person, such as the Communication Dept Head, will know everything you need to find out, then you’d do an interview. Sample student primary research instruments are posted in Course Documents.
3. Submit (1) a description of the organization in which you plan to conduct the research, (2) the primary research instrument
