A pump is drawing water from a reservoir1.8m below its centerline suction. It is pumping water to an irrigation canal which is 1.4m above the pump centerline. The following performance characteristics (flow rate Q, head H and efficiency η) were obtained when the pump was running at a constant speed of 1600rpm.

If the total head losses in the pipeline system due to friction and pipe fittings are Σhtotal = 5206Q2 where Σhtotal is in meters and Q is in m3/s:
(i) determine the system load characteristics, Hsys at different flow rates.
(ii) plot H, Hsys and η performance curves as a function of Q on a linear graph.
(iii) obtain the pump head, flow rate and efficiency at the duty point from your graph and calculate the input power.
Assumptions: Take g = 9.81 m/s2 and the density and kinematic energy of water as 1000 kg/m3 and 1 × 10-6 m2/s
