A pipe of 1m diameter is 500 m long and conveys water through a rise of 50m. If the gauge pressure at inlet is 750 kN/m2 and at outlet is 150 kN/m2 estimate the flow in the pipe. Consider pipe friction loss only and take f = 0.008. If the central portion of the pipe of length 300m is duplicated, determine the outlet gauge pressure assuming that there is no change in the inlet pressure nor the discharge. Calculate the power available due to the water pressure at the pipe outlet in each case.
