Use the ustudy.sav file. This time, consider that you collected data only on ACADRNK, YRSPHD, SALARY, and PUBLCTN from the 20 faculty. The purpose of your analysis is to group this faculty into separate clusters based on the data you have.
Therefore, run a cluster analysis as follows:
- go Analyze/Classify/ Two-Step Cluster;
- move ACADRNK in the Categorical Variables area and YRSPHD, SALARY, and PUBLCTN in the Continuous Variables area;
- For Number of Clusters, make sure Determine automatically is checked.
EXERCISE
Run the procedure and interpret the results. Then, compare the two mathematical clusters provided by SPSS with the two actual groups defined by type of university (private and public)?
