Question
A liquid stream consisting of 12.5 mol% n-butane and the balance a heavy nonvolatile hydrocarbon is fed to the top of a stripping column, where it is contacted with an upward-flowing stream of nitrogen. The residual liquid leaves the bottom of the column containing all of the heavy hydrocarbon, 5% of the butane entering the column, and a negligible amount of dissolved nitrogen.

(a) The highest possible butane mole fraction in the exiting gas would be that in equilibrium with the butane in the entering liquid (a condition that would require an infinitely tall column to achieve). Using Raoult’s law to relate the mole fractions of butane in the entering liquid and exiting gas, calculate the molar feed stream ratio (mol gas fed/mol liquid fed) corresponding to this limiting condition.
(b) Suppose the actual mole fraction of butane in the exit gas is 80% of its theoretical maximum value and the percentage stripped (95%) is the same as part (a). Calculate the ratio (mol gas fed/mol liquid fed) for this case.
Summary
The question belongs to Chemical Engineering and it discusses about calculation of molar feed stream ratio using Raoult’s law of butane entering into a stripping column.

After moving to Australia from the UK, I realised that the style of teaching is a bit different and so while pursuing my correspondence course in operations management I needed assistance. Luckily, I bumped into HwA online, who has an excellent pool of Australian operations management experts at their disposal. I got tremendously benefited by them.
I hugely owe to HwA for clearing my concepts as far as accounting entries are concerned. Previously I was not sure in which side of the balance sheet I need to put things like “labour overheadâ€, “capital investmentâ€, etc. But now, thanks to HwA, everything is crystal clear.
Things got very difficult during my 3rd semester of my Mechanical Engineering course. After coming to the States I realized that education here is very challenging. Thanks to TheReliableTutor.com, I completed all the fluid mechanics reports with an A+. Now currently they are working on my mid-tern research report and I am happy with the service.
Your Team saved me from failing by helping me at the last minute. Thanks guys!
Concepts like diffusion between phases often confused me in the past. I used to stumble at each given assignment. However, when I came across HwA, they took time to make me understand and solved all the critical problems, thereby helping me get excellent grades.

this is a very good website
I have 50 questions for the same test your page is showing only 28
hi can you please help or guide me to answer my assignments. thanks
hi can anyone help or guide me to my assignments. thanks
This solution is perfect ...thanks
Hello Allison,I love the 2nd image that you did! I also, had never heard of SumoPaint, is something that I will have to exolpre a bit! I understand completely the 52 (or so) youtube videos that you probably watched. Sometimes they have what you want, sometimes they don't! However, it is always satisfying when you are able to produce something that you have taught yourself. Great job!Debra 0 likes
